Ballard Rotary recognizes students of the month

Each month of the school year, Ballard Rotary recognizes two students of the month. Here is a little about this month’s:

Morgan Bailess: Captain of both the BHS girls’ basketball and softball teams, Morgan has worked hard to balance community and education in her four years at Ballard. She has dedicated all four years to basketball, softball, and soccer. Earning numerous player awards, including an MVP award, becomes more impressive when you learn that she has also earned an Honorable Mention for an entry in the 2010 Student BioExpo, as a part of the Biotechnology academy at BHS. The majority of her time apart from homework and teamwork has been exercised towards community service. Morgan has earned the Ballard High School Above and Beyond award for volunteering her time to coaching and counseling. Aside from working at Anthony’s Homeport as a hostess, Morgan plans on enrolling in SU or SPU to follow her dream of a career in Nursing.

Blair Scott has impressed his peers by getting accepted into the prestigious TISCH School of the Arts and NYU for film and production. He has won 7 awards, an honorable mention, and earned 4 film selections he directed and produced for Ballard High School’s rigorous video production program. Most impressively, a film of his was nominated for a 2010 NW Emmy. Much of Blair’s spare time has also been consumed by film-making, and he is currently and intern for the National Film Festival for Talented Youth (NFFTY). In addition to all time spent directing and producing, Blair is a leader on the field as well. This year Blair was Ballard’s cross-country captain. Currently he volunteers with the Ballard track coach in training runners at Whitman Middle School. Although he holds a passion for cross country and soccer, Blair intends to pursue film at NYU in the fall.
