Major accident shuts down Ballard Bridge

Update 9:25 a.m. Traffic is moving in both directions again.

Update 9:10 a.m. Seattle Fire now clarifies that two vehicles are involved, a taxi cab and a Prius. A passenger in the back seat of the Prius was seriously injured. Two others in the Prius, as well as the cab driver, were also transported to the hospital but with less severe injuries. One other person sustained minor injuries and didn’t need to go to the hospital.

Update 9 a.m. One southbound lane now open. Tow trucks on scene.

8:40 a.m. A major injury accident involving several vehicles has shut down Ballard Bridge in both directions this Saturday morning. Traffic is being diverted through Fremont.

Seattle Fire Department tells us five cars were involved in the accident. Five people are injured — one taken to Harborview Medical Center and the remaining transported by private ambulance.

The accident was reported at 8:19 a.m. (Thanks Silver for the tip!)
