Ballard Siphon Replacement Project construction to detour traffic in Ballard from January 20

image006On January 20, Ballard Siphon Replacement Project crews are set to transfer wastewater flow to the new siphon as the existing Ballard Siphon is relined.

In order to complete this work crews will extend the construction area into Shilshole Ave NW, in front of the project site between 20th Ave NW and NW Dock Place (see map on right).

The construction on the new pipe and existing siphon is set to accommodate growth in north Seattle and meet north Seattle’s wastewater needs through the end of the century.

Due to the construction, traffic traveling west on Shilshole Ave NW will be detoured to Leary Ave NW for approximately four months starting on January 20. Westbound bicycles and pedestrians will be detoured to Ballard Ave NW and should follow posted detour routes. Eastbound traffic will remain on Shilshole Ave NW.

Locals are asked to use caution when traveling through work areas, follow posted traffic signs, cones and flaggers and plan for extra travel time when commuting.

Check out the list below of what to expect during the detour:

  • Westbound traffic detoured to Leary Ave Northwest for four months
  • Traffic control signs and flaggers to ease congestion
  • Increased truck traffic along detour route
  • May include parking restrictions along detour route
  • Access to businesses on Shilshole Ave NW will be maintained at all times
