The neighborhood of Ballard is one of Seattle's most popular shopping destinations, thanks to dozens of trendy boutiques, quirky shops, fabulous restaurants and the Sunday Farmer's Market in historic Old Ballard.
But with the economy in trouble, many of these businesses are beginning to struggle. Some are closing. It's more important than ever to support our local businesses by buying in Ballard. "Please shop locally," said Vince Harris, owner of Romanza on Market St. "Support your local people. It's the best thing you can do for all of us."
Shopping locally helps pump much-needed funds back into our community. The frequently-cited Andersonville Study found that spending $100 at one of the neighborhood's independent businesses creates $68 in additional local economic activity while spending $100 at a chain store produces only $43 worth of local impact.
So please show your support by making an extra effort to buy goods and services from Ballard-area companies. You can also join the "Buy in Ballard" Facebook group to meet others who are doing the same.
If your business has a community event to promote, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org. And if you need help finding a local business, post a question in "reader recommendations." Thank you for your support!
