They’ve updated the interpretive signage explaining the workings of the Hiram M. Chittenden Locks and the salmon ladder. I’m a bit behind on this since they did it a little over a month ago — it’s been a while since my bike commute crossed the Locks. (Speaking of, there’s also new signs warning cyclists to walk their bikes or risk being ticketed).
My 2-year-old son will positively FREAK when he sees the larger-than-life salmon sign at the north entrance. It explains that the bronze icons in the pavement lead the way to the fish ladder. And yes, my boy is a total Seattleite — he already recognizes the difference between salmon and other fish. Seriously.
