It’s sailboat racing season

Tomorrow (Saturday) is the big Blakely Rock Benefit Regatta hosted by Sloop Tavern Yacht Club. Nearly 80 sailboats will compete in the annual fundraiser. Despite the name, the regatta does not benefit the rock near Bainbridge Island — this year the Ballard Food Bank is the beneficiary. The course is 13.5 miles and the rules say the boats must complete the race in 6 hours. If you’re not one of the brave skippers or crewmembers you can always join the group at 7 p.m. at the Sloop Tavern for the trophy presentations.
