Long walk to the nearest grocery store

The Seattle-King County Food Council has published a report on the neighborhoods with the least easy access to food. With the temporary disappearance of the Ballard QFC (the new Ballard on the Park will include a rebuilt QFC), there are lots of folks who are more than a 30-minute walk or bus ride from the nearest grocery store, as indicated by the blue areas on this map:

The only neighborhood that has more blue is West Seattle. The PI does a great job explaining the thinking behind the map and the growing controversy over whether a local government should be doing something about it.

Meanwhile, there was a good deal of discussion on an earlier post this week about changes on Phinney Ridge and Ken’s Market. As luck would have it, the PI also has a story today on Ken’s planned expansion, which is scheduled to begin in the fall and finish in 8 to 12 months.
