City could hike parking fees in Ballard

Starting next year, you could pay more to park in downtown Ballard. In an effort to help eliminate the 2009-2010 budget shortfall, the Seattle City Council is considering raising parking rates throughout many neighborhoods, including right here in Ballard. An hour of parking on Market St. is currently $1.50, but under the plan would go up to $2 in January. Other neighborhoods, such as Belltown and downtown will see rates rise $1 to $2.50, and Fremont’s free parking may go away. According to the Seattle Times, the parking plan could mean $29.2 million in revenue in 2010, which is up from $17.5 million last year. The council will decide on November 24th.
