When she was 90 years old, Herbjørg Sortun Pedersen stood on a ladder hanging birch boughs at the Nordic Heritage Museum for Norwegian Constitution Day. She passed away a few days ago at 95, an active, longtime Ballard resident with deep roots in the neighborhood. Pedersen was instrumental in starting the art gallery in the lobby rotunda of the then Ballard Community Hospital. She also helped select the artist for the Bergen Place mural, and she was a longtime volunteer and contributor to the Nordic Heritage Museum. Details about her memorial are here.
