Ballard church transformed into art gallery

For the last two months, artist Marianne Maksirisombat and her family and friends have been working to turn her new home, the vacant Ballard Assembly of God church on 61st St., into an art studio.

Calling it the “Art Church,” Maksirisombat will host a grand opening celebration this Saturday night complete with live music, refreshments and the unveiling of her latest creation. “Art is about community and innovation. An enormous church as a home in the middle of a community makes so many things possible,” she said in an email. Maksirisombat’s art is described as a “colorful journey through the abstract,” and you can preview it here.

Saturday night’s celebration is open to the public, 8 p.m. at 2051 N.W. 61st St.
