After piloting the program last year, Mayor Greg Nickels is expanding “Car-Free Days” to Ballard this year. The idea is to shut down a street for few hours for cycling and walking, all to “promote healthy, affordable activities and encourage people to think about using sustainable types of transportation.” So on Friday, May 15th, the city will close 22nd Ave. between Market St. and Ballard Ave. to cars (not Market and Ballard, as we initially posted.) The street will be closed from 4-7 p.m. and correspond with an event from Cascade Bicycle Club.
