Rude awakening at apartment on 57th St.

My Ballard reader Armand said an ear-splitting fire alarm in his apartment building on 57th St. and 20th Ave. forced tenants onto the street at 2 a.m.

“SFD responded quickly with fire engine and ladder truck, but couldn’t figure out what had set off the alarm,” he wrote. He sent us this cell phone photo of the scene outside. (Thanks, Armand!)

  1. I live in the same building. I wouldn't exactly call the fire department's response quick. It was like the antithesis of any fire department visit one might imagine. The trucks came down the street, the guys slowly got out, sauntered over to the building, did a walk-through, forced some people to evacuate, shrugged, turned off the alarms and sent everybody back inside. Good thing there was no fire.

  2. I too live in the building I have to agree with Ducky. They didn't seem to be in a hurry. Sauntering seems to be a good adjective to describe the way they responded.
