Lots of weekend events in Ballard

It looks like mother nature might cooperate for this weekend’s outdoor activities. According to the write-up by UW Meteorologist Cliff Mass, Saturday will be nice for those neighborhood clean-ups and we could see 70 on Sunday!

  • Friday night, the RE Store is hosting the Haute Trash Fashion Show at the New York Fashion Academy on Ballard Ave. Show starts at 8 p.m. and tickets can be purchased here.
  • To get your energy for the day, the folks at the Leif Erikson Lodge (.pdf) will be serving up Norwegian pancakes and tyttebær/lingonberries with ham and scrambled eggs in the auditorium from 8: 30 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday. $7 for adults, $3.50 for kids under 13.
  • Saturday morning is the Crown Hill Earth Day Spring Clean. Meet in the PetCo parking lot on Holman Road at 8 a.m.
  • The 9th Avenue Park work party is on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Also on Saturday is the 14th Avenue Adopt-A-Street cleanup and spring planting event. Meet for breakfast at Blowing Sands Glass (5801 14th Ave NW) at 10 a.m., work for a few hours, then talk with neighbors over lunch about upcoming activities. Trash bags will be provided by the city. Breakfast and lunch provided by the Ballard Market.
  • It’s “April Pool’s Day” at the Ballard Pool. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, the free event is geared at teaching families water safety.
  • Live music and special discounts at Sonic Boom’s Record Store Day on Saturday beginning at noon. More info in our separate post here.
  • Put on your dancing shoes for Celebrate Ballard! Spring Dance and Social at the Sunset Hill Community Association (SHCC. 3003 NW 66th St). Enjoy drinks and dancing to old-timey live music. The Ballard Historical Society and the SHCC is sponsoring the event. Cost is $7. Doors open from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. This is a 21+ event.
  • Trinity United Methodist church in Ballard (6512 23rd Ave NW) will host the first of several forums to discuss homeless on Sunday evening at 7 p.m. Several speakers, including the publisher/editor of Real Change and Rev. Craig Rennebohm will talk about the issue. There will be time for interaction after the talks.
