Tonight is the Night Out Against Crime

Tonight is the annual Night Out Against Crime. Many people are shutting down the streets, pulling out the barbecues and getting to know their neighbors.

Here’s a map we’ve made of different parties going on throughout Ballard. We pulled these locations from the comment thread of a previous post. If your block isn’t on here and you’re holding a gathering, add it in comments below. Be sure to send us pictures of your celebration! Email us at: tips@myballard.com

  1. Thanks Swedes, I'm not holding or attending one, but I can add the block north of NW Lone, south of Market Street, on the frontage street of Swedish. I saw the signage this morning on my walk.
I'd guess that if folks can get out, they'll find several good gatherings.

  2. Thanks for organizing this!

NW 73rd St., between 8th Ave. NW and Dibble Ave. NW, is hosting a gathering comprised of folks from that very short block and of people on Dibble Ave. NW both North & South of NW 73rd.

  3. We're holding one on NW 59th St, between 14th & 11th AVE NW.

Historically (and looking at the map here) there are a LOT of blocked off streets in that area (rectangle between 14th, 8th, 59th and 62nd)

  4. On the Forum someone posted that Gilman Park is available for a gathering. https://www.myballard.com/forum/topic.php?id=1352 Though I don't think anything has been organized and I haven't seen anyone express interest in going there. Still I plan on swinging by since there is nothing specifically on my block.

yve – I'm on 51st between 8th and 9th. That stretch doesn't have anything planned. Hope ya'll are ok if I stop by and say hi!

  5. There is apparently one on 9th Ave NW and 59th/60th. I'll be going to that one; look for the guy in the yellow Steelers shirt with the black lab/sharpei mix.

  6. 60th between 20th and 22nd is having one! i made s'more cookies and zucchini bread just for this occasion (and also to lure people into signing up for the free tree giveaway). yay come!

  7. hehe… I am happy to share. I'd like him to come since I have an 18 month old to wrangle!

I just sent him a text about it. I am sure we will be there – just need UPS to show up before we head out (since we all know we can't leave packages unattended around here!)

  8. We'll be holding our 10th Annual Block Party on Dibble Ave, between 80th and 83rd Streets. We have such a bunch of great neighbors on a great block!

  9. my block on 63rd street is LAME.

no block party, as per usual. too bad all my neighbors have their heads up their collective ass. New ballard at it's worse folks.

  10. Kerri…instead of going to Gilman Park, I think 'll go to the one on 52nd between 8 & 9. It's close to me and I had no idea they were having one !

  11. I headed down 60th at 17th and found a block party on the way to 20th so I stayed there. Met some neighbors. Good times.

I think we need to have unofficial block parties at our area parks more often. Who's with me?

  12. Sorry that there didn't appear to be any kind of function tonight in Olympic Manor. I should have stepped up to the plate and planned something. Hope the rest of you Ballerdites had a great time tonight!

  13. Hi Muddy Waters, the 94th and 23rd cul du sac always has a potluck. You are most welcome next year if your immediate area doesn't have one. Sorry you missed it this year. It is always enjoyable to meet our neighbor Olympic Manorites.

  14. 6700 Block of 25th Ave NW reporting in late! We just wrapped up. A tragic wine spill may have occurred on my brand spanking new Crown Hill Block Watch T-Shirt. The spot remover has been applied and the wash is attempting to do its magic…

  15. I'm with you ! It helps to build stronger safer neighborhoods.
When people get to know each other, they watch out for each other.

We went to the one at 52nd and met some really nice people ! We were a little shy and hubby was really tired so we didn't stay too long.We stopped by Gilman Park a couple times to see if anyone showed. There was a small group but they didn't know anything about Night Out Against Crime..they were just having a picnic !

  16. Another late post here – we wrapped up our block party on 12th Avenue NW between 75th and 77th in Whittier Heights. This is an annual event that everyone on our block looks forward to.
