Three Girls Bakery is open for business

Three Girls Bakery is finally open at 6209 15th Ave NW.

The sandwich and pastry shop opened this morning and the pastry case is full of fresh, mouth-watering treats. While the case is full of sweets in the morning, they’ll also be serving their popular sandwiches to the lunch crowd.

They’ll be open Monday – Friday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., unless there’s demand to be open different hours. They don’t have espresso just yet, but they will in the near future. A side note, their credit card machine isn’t working so it’s cash-only for the next couple of days.

  1. Seems like kind of an odd location for a bakery — probably not a lot of walk-up business that far north on 15th. On the other hand, they're pretty close to me, so I'm not complaining!

I hope they do better than the endless succession of coffee shops that's been through the building at 59th & 15th! (no offense to the current incarnation)

  2. 3pm?! ballard hates me :/ i would like to official start the “demand” for different hours! until 6:30, please? then at least i can get there after work. :/

  3. Awesome. I used to go to the Three Girls at the Market every day for a ham and swiss on sourdough loaf with spicy mustard. Mmmmm…sourdough loaf….

It's odd how most of the breakfast spots in Seattle think that 3 PM is a magical time in which people stop craving breakfast foods.

I think it's about time someone opened up a breakfast spot that opens at 3 PM.

  4. I've always felt bad watching yet another business go under at that location (59th & 15th) and wondered if that was one of those “cursed” retail spots that never seem to get the right fit. Sad for the folks working so hard to make ends meet and provide Ballard with coffee, food, and services.

Is 3 Girls at the former Ridlow pet store? Nobody seemed to have a moderate opinion on Ridlow-either hated them or loved them, without much middle ground. Strong opinions!

Anyway, 3 Girls gets lots of good press; never been, but now I gotta try their wares.

The best of luck to businesses trying to make it on 15th! :)

  5. I think that 3pm is a pretty liberal interpretation of breakfast hours. Anything after noon that isn't a weekend brunch is being very accommodating.
I do have issues with lunch spots that stop their lunch at 2pm as I sometimes get too caught up in work to eat lunch before 2:30, so I feel your pain but I think having your breakfast after 3pm puts you in a pretty small group of potential customers.
Gotta get up before noon to get the goodies while they're fresh!

  6. A dentist (my dentist, actually) is going into the old Ridlow Pet Store building. Where 3 Girls is now used to be a computer store. I think that old building it's in is haunted, but businesses seem to stick around regardless.

  7. But what if you like breakfast foods for lunch or dinner? Sometimes a few sausages, a scrambled egg or two and a short stack of pancakes sounds better for dinner than an actual “dinner” food.

Breakfast isn't just for mornings. :)

There's a place up here in BFE Snohomish County that serves a small breakfast menu after official breakfast hours. One of the waitresses told me recently that about 50% of their breakfast orders happen after breakfast hours.

    :)

  8. Ah, but then how about having breakfast for lunch? :-)
Me, I love places that have all day breakfast menus. But, you're right, pastries are a different thing altogether. Get 'em while they're fresh.

  9. Ok, right, the 3 Girls is where the computer guy was (had very affordable computer cabling I remember), and the dentist is where Ridlow was. Thanks!

    Pasta Bella is also haunted!

  10. Get that espresso going! That can be the difference between one customer and 10. I am pulling for you as I hate looking at the endless supply of empty businesses in Ballard.
Also for those of us that still have jobs… It would be nice to be able to come in after work, 3pm doesn't work for most.

  11. Yup, and Beth's is open 24 hours, I think.

But it would still be nice if some of our favorites (Pete's Egg Nest, the Varsity and now Three Girls-Ballard) would stay open later.

Sometimes it takes us awhile to get down to Seattle from SnoCo. :)

  12. The bakery is right next to the Ballard Barber Shop, where Bob has been cutting my hair for the past 18 years. If you need a trim to go with that pastry, I highly recommend him!

  13. Those of us that still have jobs…good one… LOL

Agreed on the espresso – it can be hard to find food and espresso under the same roof!

  14. I see apricot croissants…I am going tomorrow! Thank goodness for working second shift this week!!! Go with me, Black Sheep!! :)

  15. This is bad news for my waistline. Now I have the 3 Girls and Cafe Besalu just a short walk from my home. Can't wait to try something….did i hear apricot croissonts?

  16. I wish I had enough interest in running a diner to open a proper New Jersey diner around here… it would make a killing, but I don't want to work that hard. Breakfast (and everything else) 24 hours a day. I still can't believe all we have for late hours is Denny's and that dump Beth's.

If anyone else wants to do so, though, I guarantee I'll be a customer.

  17. But heck, if you're only employed part time, then 3pm works too. Yes on espresso and I will be happy to mosey “that far north” on 15th for an afternoon snack.

  18. Never been to New Jersey, but agree we need more 25 hr nosh. Beth's is okay, but a little overrated, IMHO. I've had better and cheaper french toast at Baranofs.

  19. What Denny's? There's just an empty lot there now.
I hear you on the proper diner thing…but that just makes us a bunch of complainers to the old locals. If it wasn't here already they don't want it.

  20. Well I'm trying again to reply to this thread. I dont know how this works. And usually get to frustrated trying to log in to discus and most of the time it doesnt work for me. I do have to say this is quite frustrating. And I'm a GEEK for crying out loud. this is normally an easy process

But Oh my gosh. I am sooooo not seeing my favorite cookies with the coconut. NOT SEEING THE COOKIES!

  21. I plan on showing up at 3 Girls tomorrow morning at 10am. I would love to see you and/or Angelatini then!

If I miss you, we can try again on Thursday. ;-)

Right now I'm working three days a week.

  22. I'll be there at 1o. If Angelatini isn't there, I'll wait around until 11. : )

I'm working three days, too. I believe that's what they call “underemployed”. Oh, well…I was OVERemployed for a long time!

  23. I was their first customer this morning, out running with the dog. I got a lovely blackberry scone and chocolate croissant.

It's going to be an act of will not to run down there every morning.

  24. Hey, Mondoman! Nice to (sort of) meet you, too!

My dog was outside being incorrigible. He was barking at you because you had the temerity to enter a building after me.

He's not used to that scenario yet — we're working on him! We'll shape him up right quick.

  25. Allow me to recommend the salmon sandwich topped with cream cheese, tomato and lettuce on their wheat bread. I used to go there all the time for lunch at Pike Place Market and it is an awesome deal at somewhere around $6 for a big slab of cold salmon on a sandwich.
This location seems a little hard to get to, though, and I am curious if it will survive, though I very much hope it will. Guess I better get up there and order a sandwich!

  26. Matthew – I just googled 3 Girls Bakery and found several entries for them in review sites online, but no web page of their own.

Fortunately, almost all of the review sites list the phone number of their Pike Place Market shop, so I called there and asked if they have a website.

The young lady that answered the phone said no, they don't have a website. WTF?

She also didn't know the phone number of the new Ballard shop.

So the interwebs is of no help to us this morning. Sorry!
