Crowd enjoys music and dancing at Bergen Place

Tre Norske wow’d the crowd last night while the Friends of Bergen Place harvested the lavender in the downtown park.

A couple dozen people enjoyed the music and some took to the dance floor.

Updated: At the end of the event, volunteers say an 70-year-old man was hit by a “punk kid” who was harassing him. Volunteers say the gentleman was shaken up a bit, “but nothing serious.” Meanwhile, Dan Iverson from the Parks Department emailed us and said the man was never hit, but the kid “suddenly started shouting at the volunteer and raised his hand in a fist in a threatening manner.” Iverson said two parks ground staff stepped in and scared the irate young man away.

  1. Wow, seriously? A “punk kid” just spontaneously decided to hit an old guy, in broad daylight with a bunch of people around?

That's nuts. Either the kid was tweaked out of his mind or mentally ill, or there's more to the story in some other way.

  2. was there really enough lavender to 'harvest'?

why not just leave it there for the bees? I think they grow enough of the stuff up in sequim for any industrial uses you can think of.

maybe that's why the boy was so irate?

  3. I'm glad to hear no one actually got hurt. “Punk kid yells threateningly at old man”, while still reprehensible and disgusting, has very different implications than “punk kid hits old man”.
