Swedish flag missing from Bergen Place

The Swedish flag has mysteriously vanished from Bergen Place Park.

Victoria from the Friends of Bergen Place emailed us this morning. She says that although the flag has been down several days, she was just made aware of it yesterday. “We are working to resolve this immediately.” She says that “outraged Swedes” have complained to the Nordic Heritage Museum, the Chamber of Commerce and to Victoria herself. “One way or another a Swedish flag will fly again by the end of the day today,” she says. People are welcome to report Bergen Place issues to Victoria at v.sangrey@comcast.net or Aaron Bert of Seattle Parks at Aaron.Bert@seattle.gov.

  1. The word on the street is that a Norwegian and a Dane conspired to make it disappear while trying to put the blame on the Fremont Troll.

  2. Maybe someone is borrowing it for the weekend to bring to Houston to support the Sounders in the 2nd leg of the West Conference Semifinals? (Swedish Midfielder Freddie Ljungberg is on the team) :)

  3. Touche! Just goes to show you how desperate some people are for a Swedish Flag. Actually, I bought quite a few Norwegian and Swedish flags in there…I was sad to see it go.

I sincerely dount that it was stolen by any naughty Norski's at the Sons of Norway, though.

  4. Sure! And while we're at it, let's take down all the signs in Asian lettering in the International District! Not everyone who lives there is Asian.
