At the Ballard District Council meeting tonight…

Tonight is the monthly Ballard District Council meeting, which is free and open to the public. The meeting runs from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Ballard Library (5614 22nd NW.) Here is what’s on the agenda:

  • Replacing Our Alaskan Way Viaduct with a Deep Bored Tunnel and New Surface Roadway. Ron Paananen, Project Manager – Washington State DOT and Eric Tweit, Seattle DOT will present the latest on plans, schedule, budget & traffic impacts for the project and how the Ballard community will be affected.
  • A Chat with City Councilman Tom Rasmussen. Tom is the new chair of the Council’s Transportation Committee. He is co-chair of the Alaskan Way Viaduct & Seawall Replacement Committee. He serves as vice chair of the Parks & Seattle Center Committee. He is also a member of the Housing, Human Services, Health & Culture Committee.
  • The annual Ballard Community Service Awards. Mayor Mike McGinn will honor the recipients of this year’s awards:
    * Jane and George Hancock, Owners of Maritime Pacific Brewery
    * Steve Cohn, Past president – Ballard District Council 2007-2009
    * Jesse Harris, Ballard’s nationally recognized young film producer
    * Barry Hawley, Long-time active member of the Ballard business community
    * Art Olsen, Formerly of Olsen’s Furniture; now Olsen’s Real Estate Associates

    1. I hope the City puts some info on their website about the changes coming to the south end of the viaduct, which is coming down late this year (I think). Perhaps they'll be building the new road between the existing one and 1st Ave, but it's hard to tell.
