Abandoned boat demolished at Golden Gardens

Earlier this week we published pictures of an abandoned sailboat that washed up on the shores of Golden Gardens.

Andrius sent us this video. “I was down there for lunch yesterday and came across a crew from the parks department who dragged the boat out, smashed it into pieces and carted it off to the dump,” he writes in an email, “The employee I chatted with says they get a few of these a year throughout the parks and that they log their hours and costs involved and bill it to the owner of the boat.”

  1. That really has to suck for the owner.
“Oh, you found my boat?! Great! Thank you!”
“What? it was torn into 86 pieces? Who would do such a thing to my boat?”
    “You did it? But why?”
“A bill? Wait I have to pay you for tearing up my boat?”

I do understand the reasoning for the officials doing this. But it is kinda sad/funny”

  2. I think this wreckage was far beyond being considered an actual boat anymore. If they smashed up a new Bayliner, I could see your point, but this really looks like they're taking an extremely large piece of litter off the beach.

  3. Billing the owner .. assuming the owner has any money. This kinda thing happens all the time. Someone can't take care of their boat anymore and beaches it. Guess who really ends up paying.
