Superintendent hosts ‘Welcome Back’ meetings

Superintendent of Seattle Public Schools, Maria Goodloe-Johnson, will be hosting “Welcome Back” community meetings this month and informal “Coffee Chats” in the coming months.

Parents, guardians and family members are invited to the “Welcome Back” meetings which will start with a brief presentation by the leadership team to welcome everyone back to a new school year and describe the new regional structure. According to the school district, “The meetings are part of the Superintendent’s engagement plan for 2010-2011 which focuses on the theme of Listening, Learning, and Responding.

After the presentation, the meeting will be devoted to informal interactions between families and district and school leaders.

The “Welcome Back” meeting for the northwest region of the city will be held next Thursday, September 23rd from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Hamilton International Middle School (1610 N 41st St.) Other regional meetings can be found here (.pdf).

Along with the evening meetings, Goodloe-Johnson will also host Community Coffee Chats starting in October. “I am eager to listen and learn from our families, and to hear more about the educational issues that matter to them,” Dr. Goodloe-Johnson says.

The coffee chat for Ballard is on November 2 from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at North Beach Elementary (9018 24th Ave NW). Other coffee chat times can be found here (.pdf).

  1. I’ll thank her for giving us back neighborhood schools with the great new assignment plan. Now give local schools more control over their spending and educational priorities.
