Ballard High teacher is ‘Hero in the Classroom’

In front of more than 400 students and parents, Ballard High School music teacher Michael James was honored last night as a “Hero in the Classroom” by Symetra and the Seattle Seahawks.

Principal Keven Wynkoop nominated James for the award. “Under Michael’s dedicated leadership, Ballard High’s strong instrumental music program has soared to new heights,” Wynkoop said. “From our two jazz bands to our marching band, from our orchestra to our wind ensemble and more, we have one of the strongest and most diverse music programs in the region.”

Lisa Daly, a BHS parent emailed us, “The attitude he brings to the classroom is just amazing — he fosters excellence among the students but at the same time a spirit of cooperation and collaboration.”

James is one of 24 teachers who will be recognized during the 2010 football season. They each receive tickets to a Seahawks home game and are acknowledged during on-field presentations at Qwest Field. James will be recognized at this Sunday’s game versus the New York Giants.
