Former rescue pup found safe in Fremont

Updated: After visiting the Ballard Animal Hospital, it turns out the Boo-boo has a dislocated hip. “At some point Boo-Boo was hit by a car,” Kathryn, the dog’s owner emailed us.

Because its not ‘a fresh’ dislocation & because they found some abnormal structure issues her hip needs surgery if she’s going to be ok. They’re quoting around $3000. In addition to the $550-700 for today’s care. We’re looking in to loans, & are going to try calling around to see if we can find a better price. But right now we have no idea how we can afford her care. If anyone might have info on a charity that assists owners with pet bills? Or maybe a vet who would work with us on the financial end?

Earlier:After more than ten days, Boo-boo the former rescue dog has been found safe in Fremont.

Boo-boo’s owner, Kathryn, called us this morning to tell us the news. She says a homeowner in Fremont went to investigate after their Dachshund kept going to the back corner of their lot. Curled up in the corner was Boo-boo.

A very relieved Kathryn says the homeowner held a cell phone up so Boo-boo could hear her voice, and the dog’s ears perked up. Boo-boo is being taken to the vet for some scratches, but Kathryn doesn’t think the dog has any major injuries.

Boo-boo first went missing more than ten days ago near the intersection of 8th Ave NW and NW Market after she got spooked and broke off her tie. Kathryn posted a Craigslist announcement for people to be on the lookout for the dog who was wearing a Seattle dog license and is microchipped. She says the dog is very shy and nervous around new people, which Kathryn believes is because Boo-boo was rescued from a hoarder’s home when she was nine-months old.

  1. Dear Kathryn, I don’t have a lot of money, but I’m happy to make a modest donation toward BooBoo’s vet expenses. Please post here or in the forum how to reach you.

  2. Consider Chuckanut Valley Vet (360) 757-3722 – yes – they’re a drive North. They’ve done successful surgeries on 3 dogs I know, all priced at 1/3 of what Seattle vets wanted for the same procedure. Chuckanut was happy to use existing x-rays and lab results. I don’t know if they take carecredit or not.

Also – call the rescue through which you adopted. Some have deals with their vets.

  3. first I want to thank everyone for looking for Boo…we were so relieved when she was found. Boo-Boo is currently at Ballard Animal Hospital, receiving fluids and pain management and other supportive care while we try to find another hospital that can do her surgery (Ballard says they are not able to do it there). I’ve looked in to the credit mentioned and am going to be speaking to family and friends about co-signing, I’ve only been back to work 10 months, my credit suffered during the unemployment.
Anyone wishing to help with her care can donate directly to Ballard Animal Hospital (at this point)–her stay there is already over $700. As soon as we locate a hospital that can do her surgery (& figure out how we are going to pay for it) I will be sure to post that information as well.
Important to note, she is listed under her original (shelter) name: Rosy Bear, although I did let the staff know she goes by Boo-Boo. So when asking for information it might be easier to ask about “Rosy Bear”.
Again, I want to thank everyone who has been helping us look for her. And thank you all again for your continued concern about her and her well-being.

  4. I will try to set that up, in the mean time anyone wanting to help with her care can donate direct to Ballard Animal Hospital. And once we get her set up for surgery somewhere I will post that information.
    Thanks!

  5. thanks! I don’t mind a drive….I do it for a living. And if they can help Boo, it would be worth any distance traveled. I will contact them today and have them look at her records.

  6. Please call the Elliott Bay Animal Hospital
    phone 206.285.7387
    2042 15th Avenue West, Seattle, Washington 98119

They provide excellent care and surgery, and if I recall correctly, work with a group that can assist pet owners with exorbitant bills such as yours. Good luck!

  7. By the way – Ballard Animal Hospital is able to take donations by phone (via credit card)… just made a call to help out a bit.

Thanks for keeping us up-to-date! I don’t have a dog right now, so it’s nice to be able to help cute Boo-Boo.

  10. I am so glad to hear she was found I was probably the first
person to witness her running down 8th.
I was walking with my groceries north on 8th and a couple of blocks south
of 65 a guy came running out the side street and asked had I seen a dog
Yes I told him and the dog was running like a greyhound super fast chasing
a guy on a bicycle going south on 8th cars were being really carefull
so I guess she must have chased him all the way down 8th into fremont.

  11. Hello dog lovers..it was my weener dog “Dolce” who found Boo Boo! I never would have seen her and she was not making a sound but my dog was persistent in telling me there was something wrong.Late Monday afternoon Dolce kept going out in to his front yard & barking his brains out. He was shaking, had a “furoughed” brow & kept sniffing the front door. His behavior was unusual He kept a vigil at the front door & in an attempt to get him into bed I went outside w/ him & he immediately went to the southside fence & started sniffing & barking & poking my leg w/ his nose. I cautiously peered over the fence into the darkness & thought maybe I saw a cat or a rat or racoon. I did not bother to get a flashlight. Dolce kept his vigil at the door & finally came to bed around midnight, exhausted & put out by my lack of concern.
Tuesday mornig I got up Dolce was right back @ his post. On my way out I looked over the fence & crunched into a dark corner under several bushes was an injured dog!
Pay attention to your animals when they are acting different..they all have a little” Lassie” in them. I should have pulled out the flashlight. Poor Boo Boo spent another cold night alone.
I am trying to add a picture and Hero Dolce to this post but cannot fugure out how..
