Time to plan for public school tours

As the kids get back into the swing of school this week, parents whose children are entering kindergarten, middle school or high school this fall need to start thinking about the 2011-2012 school year.

The Seattle Public Schools changed its student assignment plan beginning in Fall 2010. Under the plan, all children within a school’s boundary area will be guaranteed a spot at that school, but parents can still apply to other schools during open enrollment March 15th – March 31st.

Viewlands Elementary will be re-opened for the 2011-2012 school year. Under the draft plan (.pdf), which will be voted on January 19th by the Seattle School Board, “new students who live in the Viewlands attendance area will be assigned to Viewlands as their initial assignment. Current students who live in the Viewlands attendance area and are assigned to Broadview‐ Thomson will be reassigned to Viewlands upon request, through September 30, 2011.” More information on this can be found on page 6 of the plan.

  1. for what it’s worth my daughter was bullied at whitman and although the school is plastered in anti-bullying posters nothing was really done about it. she transferred to salmon bay and LOVED it. 7 & 8th grade were great for her. i loved everything about salmon bay. best school ever.

  2. Since the introduction of the 85 th street high school designation, can’t you include Ingraham in these school information postings?

Also, I have a daughter who was bullied as well. Private school. The damage was done by the time any of us were aware. I’m not sure the school can do much. They can try, but the kids are so smart about getting away with it. You were smart to move your child. Worked for us, too.
