St. Al’s celebrates neighbors all week

All this week the students at St. Alphonsus Parish School (5816 15th Ave NW) are celebrating their neighbors. Although Neighbor Appreciation Day was on Saturday, students and parents will be going around the neighborhood delivering cookies and cards to Ballard businesses. “For us, Neighbor Appreciation is day is when we reach out, create new bonds, and express thanks to those who live or work around us,” Tricia Bentley with the school tells us.

Second grader Ben drew the card that will be handed out. He titled it, “I love my neighbor, Jean.” Bentley sent us the story behind the card:

Jean, an elderly neighbor of Ben’s, has a large, old maple tree in her front yard. Last fall when Ben came home from school Jean was out front raking all the leaves into a big pile. Ben wanted to help her. They raked up a large pile of these big maple leaves and Ben and another neighborhood boy spent hours jumping into the pile of leaves!

There is also a banner with Ben’s picture on the fence of the school.

  1. I’m sure St. Alphonse is happy that Knotty Bodies is no longer a neighbor across the street.

although I would’ve loved to see a child’s drawing appreciating said neighbor.
“I was hungry and you gave me food. I was thirsty and you showed me some cleavage.” matthew 25:

  2. When I saw this headline, I thought the exact same thing about that espresso place. The church, school and parishioners must be SO relieved.

That’s a pretty good drawing for a 2nd grader. Congratulations, Ben!

  3. Actually, if you are going to be pointing moral fingers at your neighbors, then I will go on record being offended at an organization that preaches hate, intolerance, covers up child abuse while instilling family values of guilt and ignorance.

Like I said, their coffee was terrible. But I didn’t mind the mixing up of culture it injected.
