‘Owain’s Army’ at it again to fight pediatric cancer

For nearly a year 9-year-old Owain Weinert has been battling cancer. On March 23, 2010 he was diagnosed with Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) and has been undergoing treatment ever since. He’s also become very active raising money to fight pediatric cancer. (Previous coverage here and here.)

On Thursday night his 7-year-old brother will join in the effort to end pediatric cancer. Dylan Weinert (shown here), along with nine other members of “Owain’s Army” will shave their heads to raise money for St. Baldrick’s Foundation. Dylan’s goal is $1,000.

Dylan writes on his fundraising site:

My brother Owain was diagnosed with cancer last March and it has turned my world upside down! I am joining the fight to make sure kids like him have a cure, or at least better treatments in the future – so kids like me don’t have to watch our loved ones suffer and so we don’t have to live with grumpy siblings! Please donate whatever you can to help BEAT PEDIATRIC CANCER!

I’ve answered the call to be a hero! I’m having my head shaved to stand in solidarity with kids fighting cancer, but more importantly, to raise money to find cures.

In the meantime, “Owain is still slogging through his looong treatment,” his dad Alex writes us. Owain is taking oral chemo everyday, getting injections once a month and working hard at being a normal kid. “He’s back in classes, as he’s able, at Loyal Heights Elementary. Through it all, he’s bringing the fight to pediatric cancer with fundraising efforts like this one,” Alex says.

  1. Dylan! Grampa and I are very proud of you! Guess what?? Our Basketball coach will have his head shaved next week at Wasson High here in Colorado Springs. He will be helping kids here in the Springs. What a small world! Lots of Hugs, MuMu
