Leif to Leif 5k, Cultural Heritage Day & Taste of Norway coming up

The annual Leif-to-Leif Fun Run/Walk is next Saturday, March 26th. Registration is at 8:30 a.m. with the race starting at 9 a.m. at the Leif Erikson Lodge (2245 NW 57th St.). The course goes from the lodge to the Leif Erikson Statue at Shilshole and back. All participants will receive a waffle and Norwegian flag.

The morning run/walk kicks off the Cultural Heritage Day and Taste of Norway event at Leif Erikson Lodge (2245 NW 57th St), which runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

Traditional Norwegian food (such as lapskaus, rømmergrøt, krumkake, lefse, vafler, various smørbrød and desserts) will be served all day at a nominal cost. Norwegian handicrafts (such as rosemaling; weaving; knitting; chip, figure and/or relief carving) will be demonstrated, along with live music, song and dance presentations. There will also be a genealogy table where people with Norwegian ancestry can find out more about their family roots. We will also have Scandinavian gifts and raffle tickets for sale.

At 3:00 p.m. there will be a bunad parade with men, women and children wearing traditional Norwegian clothing with cultural commentary. The video above is from last year’s event.
