Ballard Jazz Gala coming up

The Ballard High School music program presents a night of jazz on Saturday, April 30th with the first ever “Ballard Jazz Gala.”

The event will be held at the Blue Ridge Community Clubhouse (10040 15th Ave N) from 6 to 10 p.m. The beginning of the evening will be a silent auction and wine raffle with solo performances by BHS jazz music students. From 7:30 to 10 p.m., the vocal jazz and jazz band will perform, concluding with special guest the Hammon-Esvelt Quintent.

  1. It will be SO cool! Also be sure to support Cabaret (Rated PG-13, for mature audiences) at Ballard starting this Thursday and running March 24, 25, 26, 31 and April 1 and 2.

  2. Not sure whether it was noted here on MyBallard, but the senior jazz band at BHS placed in the top 20 nationally at the Essentially Ellington competition. This represents a huge accomplishment for the group and is the result of a giant leap forward for the music program overall. The prize for this achievement is a fully-paid scholarship for band teacher Michael James to attend a weeklong summer seminar for HS jazz leaders. AND you will see the group perform the material that won this honor at the Jazz Gala event…
