Little League jamboree canceled for Saturday

Saturday’s Ballard Little League jamboree has been canceled for Saturday. Patti Lott, the president of Ballard Little League sent this email to families today about the change:

Hello Ballard Little League Families and Friends,

I am reluctantly cancelling our much-anticipated Jamboree due to the heavy rain we’re getting today and supposed to get through the night and possibly tomorrow.

Gilman Field is already very muddy and I don’t feel will hold up to the heavy traffic we’d give it tomorrow, especially since it won’t have a chance to dry out in the night. Since Gilman was recently completely renovated, I feel we need to treat it with TLC and respect.

And I don’t want our players to get completely soaked and muddy and possibly get sick too – they have a lot of baseball and softball to play!

This means our games schedules will start without a first pitch ceremony or recitation of the Little League Pledge or free hotdogs for the players. If the managers and players want to set up a first pitch ceremony, please do so.

I am asking the umpires for the first week of games to recite the Little League pledge with the teams and I will come out to as many of those games as I possibly can.

We will CLOSE the season in mid-June with as much ceremony and fun as we possibly can, but we won’t reschedule the Jamboree.

It’s (almost) time to PLAY BALL!

Thanks so much!

  1. ‘…I don’t want our players to get completely soaked and muddy and possibly get sick too…”
They might get INJURED from being soaked on a muddy field, but they can’t get SICK from it. That was disproven years ago.

But it’s good that you’re being cautious.

  2. well it IS baseball afterall. even the kids would be standing in the rain.

maybe if it were a more action-oriented sport, playing in the rain would be ok.

  3. Too bad North Central Little League does not have the same kind of respect for their community and parks as the Ballard Little League. They simply marched up to Ross Playfield on Saturday morning and removed the “Field Closed Due to Weather” sign and are having practice and their Jamboree. Nice work tearing up the grass little leaguers! Nice lesson for the kids!
