Ballardites capture ATM robbery suspect

Sunday morning around 9 a.m. a man robbed a woman at an ATM near 21st and 56th with people in line right behind her, Seattle Police say. A 28-year-old man wearing a wool hat with eyes cut out of it yelled, “Give me the f-ing money,” grabbed the cash and took off running, officers say.

“Several citizens gave chase, including an employee of the Prosecutor’s office,” explains Seattle Police. “The suspect threw the money down in an effort to get the citizens to stop chasing him. The citizens caught the suspect but he managed to get away. He then ran back and picked up the money and ran off again.”

But Ballardites didn’t give up. They took chase again, caught him and held him down as police arrived. The suspect was arrested. Police say one citizen suffered pain to his leg, another suffered a broken pair of glasses and a third lost their sunglasses altogether. But mission successful.

Police say the suspect told him he was a “former registered nurse gone bad,” and he was booked for investigation of robbery.
