Off-duty officer charged with assaulting bar patrons

Seattle Police officer Garth Haynes is facing one count of Fourth-Degree Assault, after a fight outside the BalMar in December. After an SPD investigation, the City Attorney’s Office decided against a felony charge and went with the gross misdemeanor which comes with a maximum term of one year in jail and a $5,000 fine. “We must continue to ensure that police officers, whether on duty or not, are held accountable for their actions.” City Attorney Pete Holmes said.

In the video captured on the police cam, it appears that Haynes stomps on the head of a hand-cuffed suspect.

Earlier this year the criminal charges were dropped against the three men accused of assaulting Haynes.

Haynes will be arraigned on July 22nd.
