Golfers raise $130,000 for Ballard High School

More than 240 golfers took to the tee box earlier this month to raise money for the Ballard High School Foundation.

The 11th annual Golf Classic held at the Golf Club at Newcastle started with a dinner and auction Monday night followed by a day of golf on Tuesday.

Organizer Sue Verduin writes:

The 2011 Golf Classic raised over $130,000 for the Foundation and the Ballard High School athletic and music programs! Funding provided by the Seattle School District (District) for Ballard athletic teams, and marching and pep bands primarily covers limited team transportation costs. Each sports team only receives about $500 from the District to fund all costs of their sport for the season. Over 850 student athletes participate on 35 different teams in 21 sports. In addition, over 200 students participate in the music programs without any funding from the District. The Golf Classic made a significant difference to the overall success of Ballard High School, allowing the BHS staff to build and improve our athletic and music programs such that they continue to be an asset in the Ballard Community.

Winners for the event included Mike Nall, Randall Morris, Eric Peterson, Fernando DaSilva and Joe Sullivan, Tony Kazmirski, Brent Husmoe and Steve Oylear. (Photos courtesy John Verduin.)
