Foss awarded $9.6 million contract for new ferry

Foss Maritime, which is based on the southern side of the Ship Canal, has been awarded a multi-million dollar contract from the Washington Department of Transportation for a replacement ferry for Lake Roosevelt. The nearly $9.6 million bid was $250,000 less than the state’s estimate.

The all-aluminum ferry will be built at the Foss location in Rainier, OR, near Longview. It will be transported to Eastern Washington in pieces and then assembled near the ferry landing.

This new ferry will replace the the 63-year-old Martha S, which has a 1.25 mile route that crosses the Columbia River and connects Lincoln and Ferry Counties.
