Ballard Greenways is inching closer to making the safer biking routes a reality for our neighborhood. A few months ago, the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) agreed to seven miles of greenways across the city, two miles of which will be along 58th Ave NW (from 6th Ave to Seaview).

At the most recent Ballard District Council meeting, Ballard Greenways presented their application for a Neighborhood Project Fund grant to further develop the greenways project. While city funding will help to designate the safe routes, Jennifer Litowski from Ballard Greenways highlighted concerns about the arterial crossings along 58th Ave. They asked for improvements at up to three crossings: 58th at 8th Ave, 15th Ave, and 20th Ave. The group hopes that will take the form of either pedestrian buttons, street level triggers, or curb cuts. Their application is one of three moving forward for SDOT to consider cost analysis. The group will learn if their application is approved in July.
There is a Seattle Neighborhood Greenways city-wide meet-up tomorrow night, Thursday March 22, at the Phinney Neighborhood Center (6614 Dayton Ave N). Guests Peter Hahn and Dongho Chang from SDOT will be able to answer questions about the greenways project.
