Woman injured on bike on 8th Ave NW

Update: The Seattle Police Department (SPD) has informed us that the accident was caused by a collision with a vehicle. According to Mark Jamieson with the SPD, at 8:40 a.m., the biker was traveling in the bike lane down 8th Ave NW when a vehicle taking a right turn onto 8th struck the bicyclist, knocking her off and causing minor injuries. The Fire Department tells us she is in her 30s, sustained facial injuries, but was wearing a helmet. The responders put a c-collar on her and placed her on a backboard to take extra precaution. She was then taken to Swedish Medical Center in Ballard. The driver was cited at the scene.

Earlier: A woman was injured on her bicycle while traveling down 8th Ave NW. According to our tipster at the scene, she was scratched up, with firefighters giving her aid at 8th and NW 67th. Several cars stopped to help, and an ambulance eventually took her away. It was unclear if a vehicle was involved in the accident.

As a reminder to all: with the weather warming up, increasingly more bikers are out for their commute, many taking 8th to get to Fremont and the Burke-Gilman Trail, so keep an eye out for your fellow commuters.
