Bella Umbrella moving, Delancey to open new cocktail bar in its place

Things are shaking up on NW 70th St: Bella Umbrella, the vintage umbrella shop, is moving to a new location at Pike Place Market, and Delancey, the artisan pizza restaurant next door, is turning the space into a new cocktail bar they plan to call Essex.

Jodell Egbert, owner of Bella Umbrella, says the store will close at the end of the month, likely around April 26. The new store will open May 1 at 1535 First Ave (corner of First and Pine).

Brandon Pettit of Delancey says he hopes to have Essex open by mid July. He says that in addition to being a cocktail bar, it will also serve as a space for patrons to wait for their table. Customers will put their names on a list, and can head over to Essex for a cocktail until their table is ready. They plan to have seating for 30. Essex won’t serve pizza, but will have other food, says Pettit.
