Around the world, people will be celebrating independent music stores tomorrow; Saturday, April 21 is Record Store Day. Started in 2007, Record Store Day is celebrated on the third Saturday of April, and invites music lovers to flock to their closest record store for free performances, giveaways, and other musical goodies.
Ballard’s Sonic Boom Records is celebrating the day with giveaways, including Skullcandy headphones and autographed LPs and posters. There will be a Jack White listening party at 2 p.m., and Star Anna is performing in the store at 4 p.m. An autographed 7″ Mike McCready/Star Anna release will also be available for purchase.
Of Seattle’s nearly two dozen independent record stores, Ballard has two: Bop Street Records is a mecca for all things vinyl, and is just across the street from Sonic Boom on NW Market St.
