This spring, a group of students from Adams Elementary accepted the Global Reading Challenge, which they ended up winning in March. The seven 4th and 5th grade students were recognized by the Ballard Rotary Club, where they and their coaches were given gift certificates to Secret Garden Books, thanks to the bookstore and the Ballard KeyBank.
The Global Reading Challenge is a “Battle of the Books” quiz bowl where teams are quizzed on ten books that the students have read. The Challenge starts at the school level, where 45 teams citywide were narrowed down to one from each school. Adams and a group from Alki Elementary clutched the victory in Seattle earlier this year.
The Global Reading Challenge is organized by the Seattle Public Library and sponsored by the Ballard Rotary.
