Midsummer night walk this Saturday

This Saturday, June 23, there will be a 5K or 11K midsummer night walk through Ballard, starting at the Nordic Heritage Museum (3014 NW 67th St.). The walk is to celebrate the summer solstice, and will start anytime between 4 and 6 p.m. The event is organized by Emerald City Wanderers, and they say the walk should end by 9 p.m. The route starts at Ballard, then goes through the Locks, then Shilshole and Golden Gardens.

“This early evening walk will be great for families, friends and anyone who enjoys a good walk with beautiful view,” writes Emerald City Wanderers.  They say the 5k walk is suitable for strollers and wheelchairs. The walk is sanctioned by the American Volkssport Association. Volkssporting, according to the Emerald City Wanderers’ website, is “an adventure in fun, fitness, and friendship, featuring non-competitive walking, cycling, swimming and cross-country skiing events.” There will more information about volkswalking at the start of the event.
