‘Explosive device’ on pay station injures man

Early this Sunday morning, a man was sent to Swedish Hospital in Ballard after being injured by debris from an explosion on a pay station near NW 54th St. and 32nd Ave NW.

From the SPD Blotter:

…SPD 911 center received a call around 12:30 AM from the Emergency Room at Swedish Hospital/Ballard with a report that a man had been injured in an explosion. Officers responded to investigate.

The injured man claimed that he was walking with a friend near NW 54 St/32 Ave NW when they heard an explosion. The man saw that he was struck in the arm by something and was bleeding. He and his friend flagged down a passing car to drive them to a nearby hospital for treatment. The man’s injuries aren’t life threatening.

The Arson & Bomb Unit and CSI responded and processed the scene. Detective believe that this is appears to be a act of vandalism gone awry. This remains an open and active investigation and no further information is available at this time.

There was extensive property damage to pay station.
