Walrus and the Carpenter on Bourdain’s “The Layover” set to air Monday

By Danielle Anthony-Goodwin

Ballard locals were excited to get a glimpse of celebrity chef and author Anthony Bourdain last July when he was spotted filming his series “The Layover”. Ballard’s own Walrus and the Carpenter was filmed for a segment of Bourdain’s show which airs at 9 p.m. this coming Monday, 4th February, on the Travel Channel.

Bourdain’s show provides a unique glimpse of cities around the world from the point of view of a layover trip. He ditches the room service and explores what his layover destinations have to offer within a 24-48 hour time period. The Seattle episode will be the final in the series during which Bourdain travelled all over the US, Europe and Asia.

Seattle’s Melrose Markets, restaurant Canlis and local shop Archie McPhee’s are among the few hot spots that also feature in the episode. “Seattle is a fantastic place to visit, I love it here” said Bourdain during the episode. I would say that we all agree!

Check out the photo of one of our readers, Bill Holmes, who posed with Bourdain in front of the Walrus and Carpenter during filming last year.

Be sure to tune in on Monday to support our local businesses and see all of the Seattle action unfold.
