What’s on this weekend

The weekend is here and is filled with exciting events happening around Ballard and beyond. Check out the list below and enjoy the weekend in our neighborhood!

Friday April 19:

  • Ballard Jazz Walk – Multiple clubs and retail outlets along Ballard Ave and Market St will be getting into the swing of things from 6 p.m. – 12 a.m. as part of the Ballard Jazz festival. Click here for a detailed map and schedule of venues and performances.
  • Free Public Health and Fitness Awareness Event at  Northgate Community Center (10510 5th Ave NE) from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Hear Astrid Pujari, MD (Pujari Center), Michelle Turcotte, ND NMD (Connected Wellness Center), and Susan Marra, MS ND share messages of healing and tips for making healthy life styles choices. Guests will enjoy healthy snacks, yoga demos, raffles, and give-a-ways during the event.
  • Ghost Light Theatricals – The Hairy Ape at Ballard Underground (2220 NW Market St) at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for students, seniors and TPS members. Click here to buy tickets.

Saturday April 20:

  • Pancake Breakfast and Book Sale at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ (65th St between 11th and 12th Avenues) downstairs in Foster Hall from 9 a.m. – 11 a.m. $5 suggested donation.
  • Earth Day Donation Drive at Ballard Goodwill (6400 8th Ave NW). Locals are encouraged to make donations to Ballard Goodwill this weekend in honor of Earth Day. After donating locals can enter the Earth Day Facebook contest here to win some great prizes including Macklemore tickets.
    • Interbay P-Patch Dahlia Tuber Sale at 2451 15th Ave W 10 a.m.  – 4 p.m. Many colors and varieties available.  The dahlias are grown organically at the Interbay P-Patch, the Garden Between the Bays.  Proceeds benefit the Interbay P-Patch.
    • EBCA’s Adopt a Street Cleanup on 14th Ave NW from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. Sign in at Blowing Sands Glass (5805 14th Ave NW). This is EBCA’s twice yearly clean up event on 14th Ave NW. All welcome to help in picking up trash along 14th Ave NW and enjoy treats donated by local businesses. Time and volunteer turnout permitting, they will also be weeding the areas around the planters. Make sure to come dressed for the weather. Tools and vests will be provided. Click here for more details.
    • Critical Lass Rides to Pedaler’s Fair starting at Ballard Locks (3015 54th St NW) at 10 a.m. Critical Lass is a leisurely paced, social ride for women. The six mile ride will take riders through the Magnolia train yard and along the beautiful Elliott Bay Trail. Click here for more details.
    • Record Store Day at Sonic Boom Records (2209 NW Market St). Anyone who purchases the 12 inch vinyl of Fela Kuti’s “Sorrow Tears and Blood”, which was previously unreleased outside of Nigeria, will automatically be entered to win two tickets to the musical show, Fela!, at The Paramount Theatre May 28-Jun 2.
    • Electronics Recycling Event at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church (25th Ave NW & NW 85th St) in partnership with 1 Green Planet from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Bring your recyclable electronics (working or not) and do something good for the planet. Please do not leave items before the event. Recycling is free of charge and donations may be made to the Church to support the youth ministries. Click here to learn more about the event.
    • Holistic Health Fair at Ballard Umpqua Bank (2032 NW Market St) 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. The fair aims to raise awareness about natural alternatives to western medicine. Stop by and check out educational information, demonstrations, give-away’s, prizes, free screenings, chair massages, refreshments and much more. Click here for more details.
    • Ballard Jazz Festival Mainstage Concert, Jazz Brunch and Art Reception at The Nordic Heritage Museum (3014 NW 67th St) from 11 a.m. – 10:30 p.m. Click here for more details.

    Sunday April 21:

    • Ballard Farmers Markets down Ballard Ave  10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Check out more about this week’s market here.
    • Interbay P-Patch Dahlia Tuber Sale at 2451 15th Ave W 10 a.m.  – 4 p.m. Many colors and varieties available.  The dahlias are grown organically at the Interbay P-Patch, the Garden Between the Bays.  Proceeds benefit the Interbay P-Patch.
    • Earth Day Green Ride events starting at Ballard Commons Park (5701 22nd Ave NW) from 12 p.m. – 4 p.m. Events include aleisurely 6-mile bike tour and a family-friendly 3-mile ride/walk along Ballard’s greenways and past homes that have installed solar panels or rain gardens with the Solarize Seattle NW and RainWise programs.
