What’s on this weekend

It is the weekend again! There are tons of awesome events happening in and around Ballard, including the monthly Art Walk. Get out and about in Ballard and enjoy the great weather!

Friday, June 7:

  • Hawaiian Bouncefest at Loyal Heights Community Center (2101 NW 77th St) from 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. Bring the kids down to Loyal Heights Community Center for Hawaiian Bouncefest! We’ll have bounce houses, game stations, and prizes! Dress in your best aloha outfit! Click here for more details.

Saturday, June 8:

  • Literacy Council of Seattle’s Stock Up for Summer Book Sale at 8500 14th Ave NW from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Great bargains on 5000+ used books. Proceeds to benefit adult literacy programs in our community. $5 for early entry at 8:00am. President, Jennifer Collins-Friedrichs, is inviting everyone to stop in.  “This year, we have an absolutely incredible selection of over 6,000 great quality used books in every genre – history, mysteries, health, gardening, cookbooks, travel, art, humor, memoir – you name it, we have it.  And thanks to donation efforts from Lincoln School students, we’ll have over 1,000 children’s books to choose from,” says Collins-Friedrichs.   • BF Day Student Benefit Carwash at Bernie’s Automotive (4420 Leary Way NW) from 11 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. All proceeds go directly to the family of a BF Day 5th grader who is battling brain cancer. BF Day students will be washing the cars and all supplies have been donated by Bernie’s Automotive.
  • Ballard Art Walk is on at many businesses and art galleries all over Ballard from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. Click here to check out more details.
  • “Rock, Paper, Scissors”: Concert, Auction and Headshave at Hale’s Palladium from 5:30-10:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 per person; food and beverage are available for purchase. All event proceeds will benefit Seattle Children’s Hospital pediatric cancer research, and shave donations will go to the St. Baldrick’s Foundation to fund the most promising pediatric cancer research nationwide. Sunday, June 9:

  • Sundae Sunday at Cupcake Royale (2052 NW Market St) all day. Every Sunday in June, Cupcake Royale is offering any sundae for $4!
  • Intro to Lasers for Children Workshop at Makerhaus (122 NW 36th S) from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. You and your child will learn the basics of how a laser cutter works. Each child will get to see the laser machine in action and then decorate and assemble their own dinosaur (T-REX) into a 3D model. Click here for more details.
  • Submerged in Science at Golden Gardens Park (8498 Seaview Pl NW) from 11 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Ever wonder what happens to the water that goes down your drain? Join Salish Sea Expeditions to explore the wonders of watersheds and their connection to the Puget Sound. Click here for registration details.
  • Ballard Kayak’s Bridges, Boats, and the Ballard Locks Tour leaving from Golden Gardens Beach (8498 Seaview Pl NW) at 12:30 p.m. Your knowledgeable guide will lead you along scenic Shilshole bay, through the historic Hiram M. Chittenden Locks, and along the fishing boats, mega yachts, and famous Deadliest Catch boats in the ship canal. The tour will end at Ballard’s public dock where a vehicle will be waiting to escort you back to Golden Gardens Beach. $65 per person, kids under 12 ride for free, beginner paddlers welcome.
