BHS student places 2nd in Ballard Crit race

The weekend’s Ballard Criterium races saw hundreds of spectators and participants, and student Benjamin Peterson, a junior from Ballard High School, finished second in the Category 3 race.

Benjamin’s father, Todd Peterson, tells us his son is also the Junior-A (17-18 year-olds) State Road Race champion for the Washington State Bicycle Association. Peterson says it was, “pretty exciting for his parents who were far to distracted to get any action photos.” Benjamin has been racing competitively for over two years, and is a member of the First Strike Velo/Slalom Consulting Racing team. His father says last year he watched the Ballard Crit from the sidelines, and said, “I want that.” He clocked in at 35 mph on his fastest leg, allowing his second-place finish in the Cat 3 race.
