Coal export community workshop tomorrow

Tomorrow (Wednesday, Oct. 9) night, the Sierra Club is hosting a community workshop to help people learn about the coal exports proposal in Longview and how will affect the region. The group has been a leader in coal export opposition, and the meeting tomorrow will look at the possible impacts of a growing coal industry in our state, and talk about the upcoming hearing in Tacoma on Oct. 17.

Earlier this year, city and tribal leaders formed a Leadership Alliance Against Coal to raise awareness about the potential problems associated with the coal export proposal.  “These coal trains threaten the health of our communities, the strength of our economies, and the environmental and cultural heritage we share. We will stand together to stop the coal trains,” said Mayor Mike McGinn.

The meeting is from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church (6512 23rd Ave NW). Learn more about the meeting here.
