Traffic collision investigators say the 12-year-old boy was walking northbound on Wallingford Avenue with a group of other children when the driver—who was headed eastbound—struck the 12-year-old as he crossed the street.
The child rolled onto the hood of the car and struck his head on the windshield. The driver immediately stopped at the scene.
Medics transported the child to Harborview Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries and police called for the Traffic Collision Investigators and a Drug Recognition Expert. Police will test the driver for intoxicants, as is standard in collisions with injuries.
Police closed Burke Ave as detectives investigated the incident.
The Seattle school district is making counselors available to students at the boy’s school.
As a reminder: school is back in session, so please drive carefully and be mindful of that fact that young students are walking to and from schools and bus stops in the mornings and afternoons.
