Dancing Brush paint-your-own pottery studio is now open at 5129 Ballard Ave NW. The new creative spot opened last month and is already making an impression on the neighborhood.

“Dancing Brush is a paint-your-own pottery studio where you can spend some right-brained time with your friends, create you own home decor, and make one-of-a-kind gifts in an inspiring, relaxing environment,” says Dancing Brush owner Kevin.

The Ballard location is the second Dancing Brush store to open in Washington, the second to the Poulsbo store which has been open for 18 years.

Before the store opened, Kevin has a distinct vision to build the studio in a very down-to-earth way. The team built their own tables and chairs and used reclaimed objects. They event build their own front doors!

The decision to open the second location in Ballard was simple, according to Kevin. “Ballard is a gathering point for recreation and fun. Plus, Ballard’s long history of “making things” is in alignment with the whole mission of Dancing Brush Studio – which is to give people chances to be producers of their own creative work, not just a consumer of someone else’s creativity,” says Kevin.

In terms of visiting Dancing Brush the process usually takes an hour or two. Guests choose a work table, then browse the selection of hundreds of different pottery pieces. Guests then choose a piece that interests them and can gain inspiration from the Dancing Brush idea cards or Pinterest pages.

Staff assist guests with glazing methods and are there every step of the way to help all work to come out perfectly. When guests are finished painting, they leave their pieces to be fired and the pieces are ready for pick up a week later.

Dancing Brush has become a fixture in the Poulsbo community, and Kevin hopes that the same happens here in Ballard. “We’ve seen first hand that Dancing Brush is not about pottery — it’s about relationships and legacy. The artwork people create at Dancing Brush lasts on and on, becoming part of a one’s personal history,” says Kevin.

Dancing Brush is open from Monday – Thursday from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., Friday 2 p.m. – 10 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. – 10 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Out of hours groups are also welcome, call Kevin at (206) 718-5104 to schedule.
