Application period for ‘Night Out’ funding ends soon

There are five days left to apply for city funding that could help your neighborhood throw a block party for the 31st Annual Night Out on August 4. The city Neighborhood Matching Fund will award up to $1,000 to community groups who need help with outreach or activities for their block party. The deadline to apply is June 22 at 5 p.m., but groups must first register in the web-based application system by June 19.

The city says the Small Sparks Fund will help fund Night Out planning efforts and activities such as outreach efforts, educational fairs, bike parades, and neighborhood cleanups.

The Night Out event is organized as a national crime prevention event designed to heighten crime prevention awareness, increase neighborhood support in anti-crime efforts, and unite communities, according to the city.
