Trupanion Inc.– providing pet insurance for cats and dogs– is headed south from its current Ballard location (907 NW Ballard Way) down to the neighborhood of Georgetown. The decision to relocate comes at a time when the company is focused on reducing its fixed expenses while maintaining its rapid growth that calls for an expansion of 176,552 square-feet to meet its needs for the next decade.
On the heels of the company’s one-year anniversary since its initial public offering (IPO), Trupanion has experienced a 27% increase in employee count, growing from 335 employees this time last year to 425 employees (and over 200 office pets!)
The company is on pace to overflow its existing buildings in Ballard within the year. Trupanion CEO, Darryl Rawlings says “this 228,000 square-foot building has the capacity to accommodate our long-term growth.”
The company’s recent earnings (see here) shared numbers that point to growth including a 28% increase in total revenue in the first half of this year.
Trupanion estimates their move will happen in the second quarter of 2016, before its current lease expires in the third quarter of that year.
