Low-power FM radio is coming to Ballard, and to celebrate, the people behind it are throwing a party. The Fulcrum Radio group recently received their license to operate from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), becoming one of just a handful of local radio stations to be granted a spot on the dial. A low-power FM station is radio that broadcasts at 100 watts or less, which means its reach would be about three miles. Â Fulcrum will serve northwest Seattle, including Ballard and surrounding neighborhoods.
The party is on Friday, Sept. 18 at 7 p.m. at the Salmon Bay Eagles (5216 20th Ave NW), and will include music from Planet Fly. Tickets will be sold at the door for $5, and all proceeds to go to support the construction and operation of the new station.
