City grants available for Small Business Saturday

In an effort support local, small businesses, the city has made funds available to help pay for activities for Small Business Saturday, a national campaign aimed at encouraging people to shop locally.  Seattle wants to promote Small Business Saturday through matching grants from the Neighborhood Matching Fund, matching up to $1,000 for, “neighborhood-initiated projects that promote community engagement.” Small Business Saturday is November 28, and includes both retail businesses and restaurants around Seattle.

According to the city, the Small Sparks Fund has resources to support activities such as events, entertainment, or marketing to neighborhoods during the winter season. The application is available here, and the deadline to apply for Small Business Saturday funding is October 16. For other events, the deadline is at least six weeks before the planned activity.
